A few years ago G W Bush was re-elected President of the USA. While this was not the death knell for the nation, it is a serious blow. We may be able to last for another century or so, but this sort of foolhardy leadership choice will, in the end, destroy our nation. GWB may be simply a cruel person who enjoys killing people.
But who is to blame? GW's rise to mediocrity as president is not his fault alone. It took 60 million voters to put him in that position. And who is behind that?
This part is simple. Fundamentalish Protestants and the Roman Catholic church. Consider these facts.
1. CNN exit polls reveal an interesting dynamic. The religious demographic that showed a rise in support for GW most in this election is that group of people who attend church only sporadically, perhaps up to six times each year. The C & E folks seem to have a pattern of personal understanding that avoids personal responsibility for righteousness by making announcements of self-righteousness. Or, claiming self-righteousness without being righteous.
2. Folks who attend church once or more each week supported Kerry by a few percentage points, according to CNN. Perhaps those who took their own faith seriously were more ready to take the faith of Kerry and Edwards more seriously as well.
3. Far more people attend church infrequently than frequently. Even among church members, and even active constituents, regular and frequent church attendance is dwarfed by those who show up only occasionally. The typical congregation of America has attendance figures running about 1/3 to 1/2 of membership.
With this much data in hand, it seems that the most likely way to put Bush out and protect the future of America is to build faithful attendance and participation at mainstream and more liberal churches of the nation.
