The Economy

There is a passage in Psalm 50:9 that is fascinating.  It can be and usually is taken wholly out of context.  But nonetheless, it is fun.

The words in the Revised Standard Version are simple.  "I will accept no bull from your house."

This a cute saying right now.  The news reports are glowing with reports of  additional jobs created during the last quarter.  The economy must be doing great, they say.

Nonsense.

The additional workers have been hired because the president has reinstated the draft under the pretext of calling reservists to active duty in Iraq.  Now that they can be assured of staying in Iraq for an extra year or two, other workers are being hired to do the jobs the reservists have left behind.

I don't like it.  At least we could be honest.  Call it the draft.  Admit that draftees jobs are being filled by substitutes.  Be honest.

Peace is our mission.

New Land in Hawaii

For a better understanding of Karl's warp, you might click on either or both the book links on the right. Some of the book can be read free, online. A full download costs about $7.

Just saw the news on TV about the new land being formed in Hawaii by the volcano. God has promised us a new life, but it seems there is always some tie with the old life. No matter how we try, we are never able to completely sever ties with our old lives. Some part of us just keeps going and going and going.

I guess that's all right. There are parts of my life I would like to hang on to. But there are large parts of It I would want to cut loose. Forget. Trash. Scrap.

But all I can do is trust the forgiving nature of God. Hopefully God will not hold those parts against me when I pound on the doors.
